Helix Spiro Drive Drive Tools
Manual or Power Driven
- Helix Drive tools designed for easy installation of Helix Ties.
- Extension pieces for inserting ties longer than 195mm in length (extension piece simply slides over front section of drive tool).
- Manual or power driven tools available for all applications.
- Economical and fast installation
- Helix Ties are designed with a chisel edge which cuts a thread into the substrate during insertion to create a strong friction fit.
- A 2mm fin creates a solid hold in substrate while allowing for differential movement between wythes.
Helix Site User Notes
Helix Super Spiro Drive Tie Installation Procedures
helix ties form a secure fixing in all types of building materials eg.
MORTAR |
CONCRETE |
STONE |
However, while installation is effective and easy, please note the following:
1. Helix Ties may be driven into all of the materials listed above, however the size of the pilot holes is dependent on the strength and density of the material.
2. For an aircrete block or softwood a pilot hole is not necessary .
3. When driving Helix Ties into normal strength mortar, concrete block, hardwood or materials of similar density, a 3/16" (5mm) to 1/4" (6mm) pilot hole is required.
*Frill pilot holes using PERCUSSION DRILL (3-jaw type).
4. When driving Helix Ties into concrete or materials of similar density a 1/4" (6mm to 7mm) pilot hole is required.
5. In all cases test drilling and pull-out strength test should be undertaken to ensure the correct pilot hole size has been selected.
6. Contact us for advise on this procedure and also to carry out pull-out test to determine the correct installation procedure for the material.
7. When working with weak or thin walled substrate, eg. clinker block, it may be necessary to use Helix Resin System to obtain sufficient pull-out value.
Remember:
The Helix Tie must be inserted into the pilot hold by manes of a HAMMER DILL (HAMMER ONLY SETTING).
The Helix drive tool has an SDS adapter to fir into the hammer drill.
Helix Masonry Drill bits are available from us., in the following diameters 5mm, 6mm, 6.5mm and 7mm, all in a variety of lengths.
